oh.my.goth.

The most anticipated part of my trip to New York City was absolutely mind-blowing.

Gothic: Dark Glamour
is a costume exhibit that just opened at the Fashion Institute of Technology Museum and I was able to catch it today on my way out of town.

It was absolutely amazing, go see it!

It was a total downer that no one was allowed to take photos inside because yall know I have a thing for mannequins but there is a book that accompanies the exhibit due out soon (why not now?!?!). We did get to take a peek at the book it looks amazing as well and is on the top of my wish list.

Some of my favorite pieces were the eagle feather headpiece by Shaun Leane for Alexander McQueen and the Vagrant evening dress from the Giles Deacon Spring 2007 collection.

Also mind-blowing was everything else McQueen, Ken Kagama, Skingraft Design, Boudicca, Jun Takahashi, Rick Owens, Jens Laugesen and Christopher Kane. There were a few different environments created to display the garments including a circular cast iron cemetery fence (eerily reminiscent to a place i recently laid to restlessness, but that is for another, unpublished prose) and a glass case that lost it's electricity while we were gazing up on it. Spooky. Actually, I don't think that was planned.

Gothic: Dark Glamour will be up until February 21, 2009 in the cold dark gothic basement of the FIT Museum. Check it out, it is the best costume exhibit I have seen so far. Commendations to curator Valerie Steele and art director Simon Costin.

oh, what do we have here?

I was browsing piperlime trying to find my friend Marisa a fall boot when I came across this:

Chie Mihara Saigon Mid Boot

Love it or hate it? I'm not sure but it looks pretty hot from the front:

The heel is a little too hiptser. But hey, it's only $695!!
